Summer Reading- August 15

Proverbs 9 & 1 Peter 2

How has God convicted me of sin in these readings?

Wisdom and Folly have similar appearances to me.  It is because of my own foolishness when I find it hard to distinguish between the two.  Whenever I am wise in my own eyes, setting myself up as the judge, I am foolish.  Every time I am tempted and think that my opinion, my thought, my idea is superior, I fail to seek spiritual milk.  I seek my own glory and stumble on the rock.

How had God comforted me with grace in these readings?

God calls to those who need wisdom.  Clearly I am one of those who needs God’s wisdom, who needs God!  He enlists those who have heard Him to join Him in calling out to others (Proverbs 9:3-6).  Those that God shows wisdom too, He uses to show wisdom to others.  What a gracious God!  And this is how gracious He is: “He himself bore our sins in his body on a tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.  By his wounds we have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24).  My God and Savior has paid my penalty for foolishness and is leading me into wisdom.  All glory to Christ my Savior!

Where do I see Jesus in these readings?

Jesus is the hero of this story.  He is the rock that causes people to rise and fall.  Those who believe in Him rise, those who reject Him fall.  He is wisdom who makes disciples of wisdom and sends them out to the world to make more wise people.  He is the One who endured injustice for the sake of His Father’s glory and our eternal destiny.  I have tasted and seen that Jesus is good!

How is God calling me to respond to His Word today?

“Live as people who are free, not using freedom as a cover up for evil, but living as servants of God” (1 Peter 2:16). I am to live as a servant of God, preoccupied with His will rather than my own.  His will is to disciple the world through Christ.  I have the privilege of being a part of that…even on vacation!
