Give Thanks!
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Lumpy mashed potatoes. Apple pie with apples not cooked all the way through. The Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys again.
In some form or another people are going to share what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving. After all we have a day set aside for it. We’ll all try our best to say something sweet (or funny, depending on the crowd). If we say it well, Hallmark may come knocking!
But thankfulness is not measured by the quick statement you say before you eat your meal. Thankfulness is not a time or a place, it is an attitude. It is measured by all the words you speak. Thanksgiving happens when we choose not to complain about something that isn’t as we would like. Thanksgiving happens when we overlook infractions against our sensitivities and respond with kind words. Thanksgiving happens when we see that because of Christ, there is way more to be thankful for than to complain about. After all, Christ opened up the door to eternal life. That is a lot of good stuff right there. Even better than apple pie!
Be thankful for God is good and His love endures forever!
