Open Our Eyes

He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 2 Kings 6:16

I’m out numbered by things that need to get done.  I don’t have enough hands or minds to do them.

The king of Syria has been warring with the king of Israel, but Israel has the upper hand.  They have in their midst a prophet that the Lord God is giving intel to.  Every plan the king of Syria makes is foiled by the man of God.  So he decides he better get rid of his problem.  He sets out to seize Elisha.   That morning the servant of Elisha wakes to find their town surrounded by the Syrian army, and he is scared.  But Elisha reassures him, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16)  And Elisha prays for his servant, “O Lord please open his eyes that he may see.” (v. 17).  The Lord opened his eyes and he saw that Elisha was surrounded by God’s army of horses and chariots.  Things were not as they seemed.

Elisha was able to keep his cool because of perspective.  I so easily forget that if God is for me than who can be against me. (Romans 8:31)  Thank God for His word that reminds us of this!

In whatever your facing today, take a breath and ask the Lord to open your eyes that you may see.  For the One who is with us is greater than everyone and everything else.  Rest in Christ and He will lead us on His paths.
